The practice of Rejuvenation Medicine

By Cornelis van Dalen ND DipHom

Naturopath-Homoeopath

What is the invaluable way Cornelis van Dalen ND DipHom practices this medicine?

1. Know what the patient wants: listen to the story behind the request and know what he or she needs.

2. Know the ÔenergyÕ system of the body and diagnose the condition of it. The success of therapy depends upon this correct assessment.

3. Know the constitution upon which the personality works. Rarely is a patientÕs temperament considered in medicine and in structuring a regimen for health or healing. But this is the key to success.

4. We are required to always learn and strive to change ourselves. Instil this desire; inspire hope.

Rejuvenate:

Mind – brain fag, inability to calculate, memory, develop (inherent) intelligence, change moral character, etc

Body – detoxify and cure addictions

Organ renewal – correction of dysfunctions

Skin – heal eruptions: acne, pimples, eczema, etc

Reproductive organs – non-surgical rejuvenation and correction of urinary dysfunction, menstrual irregularities, fertility, etc

Energy loss/ Fatigue - achieve greater enjoyment of life

Weight loss/weight gain

The Rejuvenation Process

You cannot expect change if you do the same thing every day.

Firstly, let us look again at therapy:

Naturopathy and rejuvenation:

The virtues of natural medicine, that which we call Naturopathy, lies in the application of the laws which govern life. No cure can occur without the observance of the workings of natural law. The person seeking rejuvenation, which means to be healed of ailments of mind and body, the observance of the laws of Nature will need to be made. This is the workings of the human body and the laws of mind and conscience. This observance and seeking to understand, though, enriches life experience, as well as rejuvenates the body.

Homoeopathy and rejuvenation:

Science looks at substance. Homoeopathic science looks at the effects of substance in the human body. Thus homoeopathic medicine knows what will happen to the body when the remedy is taken. A remedy is given which in healthy people created the symptoms. So man now understands the law of similars – the most similar remedy to the disease.  This is healing or appropriately rejuvenation.

Diet and rejuvenation:

The definition of diet is to eat food according to rule. A diet should only be prescribed to those who will benefit; the rest should eat food. This may sound ludicrous but it is true. Additionally only food that is tasty will be of benefit to the body. Medicine in very small doses is usually not tasty; therefore it has the ability to heal. Herein is another truth – too much medicine and it becomes a poison. Food can be a medicine but too much will injure.

The way diet is prescribed is according to the energy and condition of the individual – whether one is hot or cold person, whether one is dry or damp, or a mixture of them. Only when these things are taken into consideration can there be healing and rejuvenation with food and eating. The vast majority of people follow fashionable trends in food and eating, from the market place or from in-vogue books and worry about the consequences afterwards or their failure to rejuvenate.

What constitutes Naturopathic therapy?

Modern Naturopathy is an eclectic system of healthcare, which seeks to promote the body's self-healing. (The word eclectic means: to borrow freely from various sources.) The choice of treatment to restore health in the patient is according to the patientÕs needs. My definition of naturopathy is Ôthe way of Nature in medicineÕ. Healing is natural and evident according to NatureÕs laws. For example, if you are tired, sleep; this is natural.

Naturopathy is based on the principle that it is the inherent life force that heals. Some call this Vis Medicatrix Naturea – or Nature Cures, nature heals. The Vital Force holds everything in balance in health, but expresses itself as symptoms of illness when there is imbalance, usually expressed as an excess or deficiency. The regaining of health is to address the excesses or deficiencies through therapy which may involve:

  • Dietary correction, hyper-alimentation (juicing) or fasting (if appropriate). Additionally mineral therapy, herbal preparations may also be prescribed
  • Hydrotherapy – baths and spa-bath treatments, hot/cold water applications, enemas (if needed)
  • Light (sun) therapy – also referred to as helio-therapy
  • Air therapy – air baths, breathing exercises

In addition the emphasis is on identifying and removal of negative and toxic influences. This firstly requires attention to proper elimination of bodily wastes. This is called the ÔdetoxÕ; all therapy is ultimately directed to this. All healing comes when there is discharge or elimination. This is why natureÕs medicine is so healing because it does not add to the bodyÕs already toxic load, but lessens it.

Negative influences also means looking at life-style and attitude adjustments to address stress factors, and importantly, introducing exercises and artistic/creative activities into daily life. This is building a new pathway of natural and wholesome living. If we are nervous – seek calm through comfort; if we are stressed – relax through gentle movement; if depressed – to lighten up through creative endeavours.

What constitutes Homeopathic Medicine?

Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) called his system of medicine Homoeopathy from the Greek: homoios (similar) and pathos (suffering or disease). For healing of a disease Hahnemann showed that the one remedy should be used that provokes a similar set of symptoms in a healthy person. This is the principle of like cures like. Thus a homoeopath matches the symptoms picture of a suffering patient, with a remedy with the same symptoms picture. This remedy is called the similimum. For example: when cutting onions, some peopleÕs eyes begin to burn and tear. SO when a patient has the symptoms of tears and burning sensation, as in hay fever, for example, this can be treated with the homoeopathic remedy onion (Allium cepa).

HahnemannÕs homoeopathy is based on four principles:

  1. The most similar remedy (similimum): this is the remedy which matches all of the patientÕs symptoms, in mind and in body: the nature of pain, and modalities (what makes it better or worse).
  2. The single remedy: when the homoeopath selects the similimum of the disease, only one remedy is given, not several as this confuses the inner life.
  3. The single dose: the correct similimum is given in one dose – one pillule. This is allowed to act on the patient, and when finished acting with the reappearance of symptoms or other symptoms requiring healing, the remedy may be repeated or another remedy selected.
  4. And the potentised dose: Hahnemann found that when a remedy is potentised, meaning diluted and succussed (rhythmically shaken – also called dynamisation) it acted more deeply, profoundly healing and without aggravation of symptoms. Also, poisons when potentised revealed immense healing properties.

How we express ourselves in health and in sickness, our peculiarities, idiosyncrasies – our temperament – is important for the selection of the remedy. Only the Homoeopathic Art of healing acknowledges and uses mind symptoms in the selection of remedies.

Homoeopathy acknowledges the Vital Force (Hahnemann called it the Spirit Dynamic, the Vital Principle), which represents the man in totality. There is a great similarity in the principles of homoeopathy with naturopathy. Some sources suggest a homoeopath coined the word naturopathy! Homoeopathy is perhaps the highest system of Nature Cure known to man at this time: it is natural and works according to NatureÕs Healing laws.
